90s Nostalgia

90s Nostalgia

I’m a product of the 90s and am a prime example of a child who completely played into the trends. Except that at the time I didn’t even realize that they were trends – I guess you could just say that I had eye for what was good (just kidding of course, I was just spoiled and given cool things by my relatives, what kid actually buys themselves anything?). One of my most beloved accessories was this red and yellow, Minnie Mouse, canvas-like knapsack (yes knapsack, not a backpack) that I’d take with me everywhere that I went. Whether it was on a family vacation somewhere or merely to my grandmother’s house for the day, my knapsack was the first thing that I reached for whenever leaving the house.

As the years went on, the knapsack began to show wear and tear, evenually it developped some holes and was pushed to the back of the closet while newer bags took its place. Thinking back to my knapsack, I really wish that I could be back in my room in Ottawa so that I could pull it down from the shelf in my closet and make new memories with it. Sadly I am no longer in Ottawa, nor do I think that a Minnie Mouse knapsack would fit well into my everyday attire.

Luckily for me, I was gifted a pleather knapsack from the lovely ladies of My Femme Crush. Because I tend to be a little bit of a neat freak with my bags (take one look at my purse organizer and you’ll understand), the multiple zip compartments on this knapsack were like a dream come true. I can fit my phone on either of the side pockets, my metro pass and miscellanious lip products on the outermost pockets. The innermost compartment is actually rather spacious and I can fit both my wallet and a water bottle inside comfortably.

Because the knapsack is such a statement piece, I decided to keep the rest of the outfit relatively neutral so that it would get its moment to shine. Sticking to the knapsack’s prescribed black and yellow palette, I wore it with my favorite Aritzia peacoat and a pair of black floral denim from Zara. From far away, my pants appear as if they’re flat black, but close up, there are actually floral imprints that have been coated onto the pants in a waxy overlayer.

If you too are a 90s baby like me then you can have your chance at this cute knapsack too! Make sure to continue till the end of this post to find out how you can win $50 in store credit to their online boutique.
