A Cozy Date Night

Hello 2016! I did not disappear, trust me. For the 10 days that I was back in Ottawa spending time with family and friends, I wanted to be as removed as possible from the online world and not have to deal with anything outside of some much needed R&R.

A Cozy Date Night

It’s been a much needed week and a half of blogging detox that I couldn’t have been more grateful for. Although I love creating content, sometimes it comes at a cost. Especially at that time of the year when there are so many exciting things that I want to cover, burning out can be quite the common result.

If you were on the East Coast, then you’ll know that we experienced quite the summery Christmas. With record setting temperatures as high as 25 degrees Celsius, it made it difficult to dress appropriately and as festively as I wanted to for that time of the year.

The first thoughts that came to my mind were that I’d be able to spend much more time outdoors without fear of getting chilled, but low and behold, a couple days after Christmas, 30 cm of snow fell overnight. Which brings us to today – there isn’t much snow left on the ground, but it’s still there.

A Cozy Date Night

I had pre-emptively made some plans with P for a couple of different date nights I wanted to do while the warm weather was still around, but now that the snow has stuck to the ground, it’s pretty accurate to say that winter is officially here.

But even though the temperature has dipped quite a bit, I’m not planning on letting that stop me. Contrary to popular belief, looking cute in cold weather is very much possible.

Yes ladies, you heard me right. You can continue Tindring even though the frost has settled. Don’t let it stop you from swiping right!

We’re quite lucky that turtlenecks are such an important re-addition into our closets this year. Don’t pretend like you didn’t just stock up on a collection of turtleneck tops over the past couple of months. You know you haven’t worn one since high school!

One of my favourite ways of converting a cute and flirty dress from summer to winter appropriate is to throw a turtleneck overtop to give yourself coverage, but to also stay on trend as well.

And forget about the stilettos. Slipping on black ice is a nightmare on its own, you don’t want to add some sprained ankles into the mix. Since you’re already going quite top heavy, balancing it out on the bottom with the same is perfectly acceptable.

You probably already own a classic pair of heeled-black booties, and are most likely already wearing it to work on the daily. So why not make it easier on yourself and avoid the shoe-switch by wearing them out to dinner as well? Trust me, no one will blame you for wanting to stay warm. And if they do – then clearly they’re not the right one for you!
