DIY At Home Spa

We’ve made it to Friday! T-minus almost 24 hours before I fly out to Vancouver for a week! I have this ritual that I perform before every big trip that I have – to give myself an at-home spa. Some girls may glam themselves up for a hot date, I like to glam myself up for a big trip! Since tonight will be another big night of R&R, I wanted to share some of my favourite at-home spa products that I’ve been loving lately.

IN SHOWER

Ever since I gave the Nivea In-Shower Lotions, I’ve been obsessed with moisturizing while in the shower. Vichy’s Ideal Body Spa Showers are a similar product but with a more relaxing smell that really similates the effects of a spa. Formulated with a multi-mineral complex and natural oils, the Gel-Cream is my current favourite as it moisturizes but doesn’t leave behind an oily residue. I love applying the Gel-Cream immediately to my legs after I shave as the Shea butter is soothing against any razor burns that may have incurred.

But before I even shave, I like throwing on Biotherm’s Wonder Mud mask first so that it has some time to fully absorb into my skin while I’m shaving. The mud also contains tiny exfoliants that not only helps to get rid of dead skin, but is also surprisingly relaxing when I massage the mask into my skin. Although the packaging says to leave it on for about 5 minutes, I often find myself leaving it on for 10 minutes since the feeling is so refreshing.

OUT OF SHOWER

Out of the shower, I love indulging a little bit with For Beloved One’s Melasleep Brightening Lumi’s Key Toner. This toner can get a little bit pricey, so I tend to save it for my spa days as opposed to everyday use. Ever since I learned about the cupping method, I’ve been translating it to every toner that I lay my hands on and have noticed a significant change in the efficacy of toners.

Because I only use this toner on my spa days, I’ve yet to see much of a brightening effect, but I do have to admit that the smell of the toner is addicting.

If it happens to be the evening when I perform my at home spa (which it typically is), I like to apply Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate – again mainly for it’s scent. It’s funny how scents can trigger the sensation of relaxation. But for real though, I actually also really  like how supple my skin feels the following morning after I apply the Midnight Recovery Concentrate.

The product is quite concentated (as the name says – but completely no pun intended), so I don’t typically use too much. Trust me when I say that a little goes a long way. I like to apply one drop of the concentrate on my forehead, and one on each cheekbone. Then I massage it out in circular motions to evenly distribute the essential oils across my skin.

But the facial treatments don’t end there. I have recurring dry lips that frequently get chapped, so making sure that they’re treated is super important to me. I’ve heard amazing things about Bite (side note: did you know that they’re a local Toronto company? Locals represent!) and just recently got my hands on their Agave Lip Mask. After applying it once, I instantly knew that it had fuond a place in my at home spa routine.

The moderately thick consistency stays well on your lips without feeling like you’re wearing lipgloss, and the flavour is hard to shy away from as well. I mean, honey flavoured? Hello, of course I like this product. Heck I sometimes even want to eat it!
