Exploring Grottos and Caves

5

For all of you who have been following me on my Bermuda adventures, I guarantee and promise you that this will be the very last post from the tip! No fingers crossed, I’m being straight up honest here! I just can’t help but want to share all of the beautiful places that we went to. And it’s not just the beaches there that were nice, but their rock formations and their flora as well. I know, I know, that all sounded super lame and touristy, but bare with me here, you’ll soon understand.

It’s actually really cool to study the rock formations, because the tilted striations on the rock that I’m sitting on indicate that the rock had shifted from where it once was. Which is actually pretty crazy when you think about it because these things were massive. Imagine trying to move these pieces around by yourself – it’s physical impossible. So to imagine Mother Nature doing all of that work on her own, it’s a little astounding. But that might just be my nerdy sciencey side getting towards me. I really should just be enjoying it as a beautiful view on its own as opposed to analyzing the heck out of it.

Besides the interesting rock formations, we also happened upon these fun looking trees that had multiple trunks. Sure, there are some of your typical run of the mill trees in Bermuda, but the fun ones look like this. One plant shooting out of the ground with multiple trunks like a pin cushion made out of wood. The cool thing about them is that all of the trunks curve out and upsides from the base of the tree to create these interesting prison-like wooden bars. I kind of felt like I was in a jungle – except I wasn’t.

And if the initial rock formations weren’t enough, the same beach had a set of rocks in the middle of the ocean that were probably about a couple minutes walk out from the beach. Remember the little coves that I mentioned before? Walking along the otherside of the rocks revealed a tiny private little beach. And when I say tiny, I mean tiny – because you could probably only fit about 5-6 beach towels laid down side-by-side on the sand.

And though 5-6 towel widths doesn’t exactly seem to be the most appealing amount of space, the intimacy of it is.

With that being said, I still can’t get over how beautiful of a country that Bermuda is. I’ve recently found that flipping through my photos of the trip when I’m stressed actually helps to relieve my anxiety. I felt at peace when I was on my trip and am glad to be able to re-live those moments each and every time I look back through the pictures that I shot.

So my advice for those who are stressed: even though you may not have the time or be able to take a vacation, just take a couple minutes for yourself. Remove yourself completely from what you’re doing or from what stresses you and take a few deep breathes. Think about your happy place (no I’m not trying to be a sap here, I’m dead serious), and imagine yourself there. Pretty soon you’ll be exploring your own grottos the way that I do when I need to lose myself for a few minutes.
