Faking Height

Faking Height

A couple weeks back, I shared some insecurities of my height and purposely dressing myself short. Although my journey with fashion has taught me different ways of shortening my height, I’ve also learned to do the opposite. So for all of you ladies who’ve ever wanted to do the complete opposite and lengthen those legs of yours, here are some steadfast methods that I’ve used in the past and which have paid off pretty decently for me.

Faking Height

Short shorts. There’s nothing better then a good pair of short shorts to elongate those legs of yours. Obviously if you’re not that comfortable with showing off as much skin, then this may not be your best option, but the higher you go, the more leg you show off = longer legs. In a sense you’re trying to create an endless silhouette of legs. Giraffe comments here would be much appreciated (as opposed to 15 years ago).

If you’re comfortable with the short shorts route and want to continue amping up those stilts of yours, one of my favorite things to do is to pair my shorts with a pair of thigh high boots. Thigh high boots used to be synonymous with inappropriateness (obviously I don’t recommend wearing this to school or your workplace if you can avoid it), but recent fashion trends have made them a little bit more acceptable.

If heeled boots aren’t really your thing, you could always get a pair of flat thigh highs to make your day a little bit easier to manage.

Faking Height

I actually wore this look to work a few months back, but wanted to be a little more inconspicuous, so I chose to wrap a plaid shirt around my waste to kind of hide the fact that my shorts were so short. This also helped to cover up and skin from behind so it doesn’t even look like I’m wearing shorts from far away.

Faking Height

Some other really good ways that you could elongate your legs would be to wear clothes that are similar to your skin color. Colors that are similar in tone can blend together, so from far away, you don’t see the colorblocking change from your legs to your pants/shorts or even shoes.

If shorts aren’t and boots aren’t an option that you’re comfortable with exploring, I’ve tried a nude pair of heels/flats with trousers in the past and they too have achieved the same overall result. Regardless of your clothing comfortability, there are always different ways of achieving the look that you desire! So don’t feel bummed out if your legs aren’t giraffe-like (like mine), fashion has enabled us with so many different options to get the look that we want that you should never be envious of others ever again.
