It’s funny how monochromatic I dress considering the fact that I go all out with the neons when I’m working out. Case in point is my last post. You’d probably never ever see me wearing that many colors on a day-to-day basis. Why? Simply because it makes it more difficult for me to be able to mix-and-match different pieces together without having to buy more clothing just to facilitate my fashion ADHD.

At least with black and white or just sticking to some range of a greyscale, I can basically put anything together and not have to worry about the colors clashing. I already have enough things in my closet as is, that I might as well make sure that everything matches instead of worrying as to whether or not one particular shade of blue is the right one for the outfit.

For any other person, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but for my ethos of getting the most wear out of your clothes before getting bored of them, having an entire wardrobe that seamlessly goes together without much of a thought seriously facilitates that.

On the upside, having a greyscale wardrobe makes it easier for me to throw some color into my outfits in the sense of accessories. Last year, I went through all of my purses and noticed that I don’t actually own any black purses – which is probably the weirdest thing out there considering the fact almost everyone I know has a problem with collecting black bags.

In fact, I’ve always have colored bags. Mainly for the fact that because it’s fun to have a nice punch of color when the rest of your outfit is greyscale. Or blah – just kidding, grey is never blah. It actually takes quite a bit of skill to pull off a greyscale outfit without looking like you’re wearing really old and worn out black and white clothes that have gone through the wash one too many times.

But since my work bags are more practical bags, I don’t often get the chance to wear something nice that’ll go along well with the rest of my outfit. Which meant that the bag that I brought with me to work today was not photo-worthy.

My work-horse bags are quite literally work-horses. They live and breathe to be worked and definitely do show some signs of wear and tear. So instead of accessorizing with my bags/purses on days of work, I often opt for fun pieces of jewelry, or the next best option – sunglasses.

I’ve got a couple pairs of the standard black, silver and titanium colored lenses/frame duo, but sometimes it’s fun to have some rainbow reflective lenses in the repertoire as well. They pop out pretty well against a lack of color and really help to elevate the entire look without having to over-think the outfit.

So who needs to wear color when you can just grab a couple of accessories (in color of course)  to play around with? The next time that you think that black and white is too drab or you’re more hanging onto the opposite end of the spectrum thinking that it’s too difficult to pull together, just remember that it’s easy for everything to fall together with some colorful accessories that can be rotated around from outfit to outfit.

Spend less money by investing in clothes that easily fall together (because we all know that clothes are pricey) and throw a couple of dollars here and there are some fun and colorful accessories to switch things up when you need to.
