Holiday Party Outfit – With The Family

Holiday Party Outfit - With The Family

Today is my last day in Toronto before I leave to go back to Ottawa for the holidays. That being said, I’m over the stress of shopping for presents, but now I’m facing the stress of packing as lightly as possible against the chilly weather. Trying to fit enough sweaters to last 10 days into a tiny luggage bag isn’t the easiest thing in the world.

Adding on top all of the extra party outfits and you’ve basically got a picture of me sitting on top of my luggage trying to squish everything into place. Pretty much straight out of a cartoon!

Between family get togethers and wine & cheese nights with the girls, I realized that I was missing one of the most important parties of the year – New Year’s Eve. Years ago I would have put together the ideal party outfit that was perfect for club-hopping, but in recent years I’ve spent more time at home clinking champagne flutes.

For this year’s NYE celebrations, I wanted to go the dressier route and landed myself this lace-dress from Dressabelle.

I’m head over heels in love with the intricate lace detailing all over. And yes the entire dress is unlined except for a couple of strategically placed pieces to cover up the itty-bitties.

And although the lace doesn’t stretch (something’s got to be done to make space for all of the food that I’m going to consume), there’s a large enough slit going up the back of the dress that at least allows for a little bit of movement.

And if the lace detailing already wasn’t enough, I’m in love with the thick black collar coupled together with a keyhole opening on the back.

Typically with such an over-the-top piece, I’d go for with more simpler accessories to keep everything balanced. But only for NYE, I felt that I’d go with a “more is more” motto.

I paired up a fringed – but all black to keep things neutral – cross-body bag and strappy lace up stilettos and a simple hairdo to balance everything out. Yes the outfit is a little elaborate for my typical style, but like I said, only for the holiday and NYE!
