Life Gets Better – Music Gets Louder: My Ultimate Workout Playlist

The Ultimate Workout Playlist

I don’t know about you, but when I’m working out, I like to be motivated by other factors besides just my mood. Well lets put it straight – I start out motivated, and as the energy is expended, I get kind of tired and demotivated. So how exactly do I get my mojo back? With music of course! There’s nothing better than a solid playlist to get my mood uplifted and back in the flow of things, or to even just maintain that initial adrenaline pump.

The Ultimate Workout Playlist

I’ve known some friends who actually like listening to country music to stay in their workout groove – which is kind of odd (don’t get me wrong, to each their own), but if it works then it works. Personally, I like something with a little bit of a harder beat that keeps me focused while I’m pushing through my exercises. Pop music sometimes work, but I’ve found that it’s sometimes too upbeat and doesn’t get me feeling focused, but more in the mood for a summertime BBQ patio party. Ain’t nobody go time for hamburgers and hotdogs when you’re trying to run 5 km.

Instead, I like to workout to EDM or some hip hop that has a heavy beat. Anything with a beat is something that keeps my personal beat going. It’s like a pseudo heartbeat that keeps my mind in check and to continously push through each rep, and each set. Or if I’m running, it keeps my mind focused to keep pushing through that brick wall that you come sometimes hit when you’re distance running. All of you runners will know what I’m talking about.

For pushing weights, I prefer music that has just as hard of a beat, but more lyrical. The lyrics really help to distract me when I’m pushing through a hard set so that I can finish off the last couple of reps without focusing on the fact that I’m only halfway through.

Getting only halfway through your set and realizing that you have no energy left and that you’ve still got a lot left to do is easily the most frustrating feeling ever. I hate having to give up mid-set, but with the help of the lyrics to distract me from how many reps I’ve yet to complete, I can complete the set.

So without further ado, here is my current music selection for working out! I hope that it helps you find some new tracks if you’re in the market for a new playlist. And if you have some suggestions of your own, I’d love to listen to some new music!
