NYC Travel Diaries: On the Road

On my most recent trip to NYC, I really had the chance to enjoy the culture, by spending the days roaming the downtown core, riding the subway, and walking along the streets at night. We spent so much time walking around that we might as well have been on the road the entire time – only on our feet, not in a car.

I’ve found that the true testament as to how well you had the opportunity of experiencing a destination as wholely as possible is by measuring how painful your feet are by the end of a day.  No, I’m not a sadist, but there definitely is a direct correlation between the distance that you’ve walked and how pained your feet are.

Oddly enough, everytime I’ve visited the Big Apple (for the last 3 years) I’ve broken in a pair of shoes. Probably not the best idea, but what better way to truly test out the durability of a pair of shoes than by walking all around NYC with them? Breaking in a pair of leather boots is never fun, but this pair of Cartel booties truly make the cut. They definitely started out stiff, but relaxed into a comfortable fit with a smooth stretch that facilitates an easy flex of the fit with each step.

Booties now broken in, I think that I’m ready for the next trip!
