Reversable Functionality

Reversable FunctionalityVersatile clothing is worth more to me than a good hair day. I can easily tie up my hair or throw it into a top knot on days that it’s not cooperating. But on days where I feel like I’ve already repeated my outfits over and over, yet I have nothing to reach for in the closet, those are the days that I dread.

If you don’t recognize this jacket, I wore back on Christmas to a family dinner in this post. I actually wore it as the top part of a matching set along with thigh high stockings. Although I absolutely loved the outfit to pieces, shorts just aren’t appropriate in this current season. Rather than going the route of laying the shorts over a pair of leggings (that’s still not going to cut it), I noticed that the zipper on the back of the shirt ran all the way to the bottom of the hemline instead of stopping midway. I was struck with the idea of trying it out as a jacket to layer over other pieces as opposed to wearing it as its intended purpose – a top.

What began as a crazy thought morphed into something that I think worked out quite well. I got many compliments all day from people asking me where I got my jacket from. Surprise, surprise, it’s actually a top and it’s from H&M for an affordable $35! If that’s not what you call functionality, then I don’t know what is. Although the fit of the top wasn’t meant to be worn backwards, and I felt a slight tug at the shoulders, it was comfortable enough to last me through a day of work. Now if only all front opening shirts worked just as well when reversed.
