Vancouver Wanders X OPUS Hotel

A couple weeks ago, P and I took our first ever long distance trip together. It’s weird to think that in the past 5 years that we’ve been together, we haven’t had a chance to travel farther than Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. For other fellow Ontarioans (please tell me that’s a phrase), these 3 destinations are quite standard – so it was nice to finally go somewhere outside of the basic East Coast cities.

Being first time visitors to the Canadian West Coast, we split up our 8 day trip up into 2 different legs to best explore the city. The first half was spent mostly in Yaletown and Gastown. Because we were planning on spending our time in those areas of the city, it only made sense to also stay around there while we explored.

The Opus Hotel ever so graciously hosted our first 5 nights in Vancouver right in the heart of Yaletown, making shopping, sightseeing, and dining out ridiculously easy.

Immediately after we landed and claimed our luggage, our friends scooped us up from the airport and accompanied us to Opus to check in and check out the place. Although our flight wasn’t a long one, flying always seems to take a toll on me, and a 30 minute rest was necessary before we set back out again to explore the city. Honestly, I have never felt pillows this fluffy and this comfortable to fall into. In case you’re curious, I didn’t take a nap naked while our friends were waiting around.

After the quick recharge, we headed back out to the city, but with plans made in mind to schedule an appointment with the soaker tub later on in the evening. Seriously, how can you turn down a nice soak with a view after a day of flying?

And for those who aren’t fond of baths, the shower is to die for. In between pristeen white tiles, an overhead rain-style shower head and custom mixed Opus shampoo, conditioner and body wash, I literally felt like I had walked into a bathroom straight out of MTV Cribs. To all you that understood that reference, I want to meet you and be your friend!

The morning after was when we really got the chance to enjoy the room in all its glory. And of course the day wouldn’t start off without a proper cup of coffee. Luckily for us, all of the rooms were equipped with a Keurig or Nespresso machine, so I wasn’t stuck having to make an early morning run to the closest coffee shop. Bathrobe snuggles and a cup of coffee please, I’m having serious withdrawals of waking up to these floor to ceiling windows and the view every morning.

Although it wasn’t intended to be a complete work trip, the life of a blogger never ends, and I started a couple of the mornings with some quick responses to emails. Working from bed had never really quite been that entertaining of a thought to me until I actually tried it. The idea of never having to leave the plush mattress and pillows is definitely one that I can get behind.

The massive mirrors also made it easy to apply makeup and check out my outfits. As shallow as that may sound, you never truly appreciate the magic of mirrors until you live somewhere that has mirrors placed in the most inopportune places. Trust me, you’ll appreciate a good mirror once you’ve had to tippy-toe one too many times just to see your eyebrows properly while plucking them.

Nearing the end of our stay, we didn’t want to leave. What with the daily candy drop offs during turn down service along with the impeccable staff, it was hard saying goodbye to both the Opus Hotel as well as Yaletown.
