Venetian Adventures

Venetian Adventures

The last time I was in Vegas with my family we stayed at The Venetian. It was quite a few years ago, and although I was severely underaged at the time to really explore any of the clubs and casinos, I remember loving the sights. Ever since my trip many years back, I’ve always dreamed of revisiting to see the beautiful hotel and enjoy the “legal age” activities. It’s strange that when I was here last, all I wanted was to be a “grown up” and gamble like everyone else that was sitting at the tables and slots. This time around, it’s been many years since I’ve been back to Vegas and I didn’t feel that pull anymore. Gambling doesn’t feel as elusive to me as it once did (I have gambled since becoming legal), and I walked by the tables without even feeling an urge to look over to see what was going on.

But even though I didn’t feel like gambling at The Venetian, I knew that I wanted to go back to see the amazing architechture and expansive spaces. If you’ve never been to Vegas, then the one thing to know besides the gambling and partying is just how big everything is. And when I mean big, I mean larger than life big. Decor is massive (think of giant bouquets x10), and space is big too. Rooms are ridiculously ginormous to the point that clubs can hold a capacity of 6,000-10,000 people. If you’ve ever been to a busy and crowded club in Toronto, then know that they hold about 600-800 people at max on average. Now try to imagine 10 times the amount of people. Can you? Didn’t think so.

Now instead of thinking of that many people jam-packed into a room, just think of the room being emptied of those people. It’s large, like very big. Now imagine everything and everywhere in Vegas being like that. You get my drift?

Anyways, the expansive space doesn’t go forgotten when it comes to decor. The designers definitely knew how to maximize the space, and you won’t ever find a single corner go by without some sort of detail. The crown moulding is crazy, and the tiles are intricately detailed beyond imagination. I can say without a doubt that I admire the amount of detail put into designing each of these hotels.

I’ve never had a chance to ride the gondolas at the hotel, but have always wanted to. This time around, we didn’t have much time to really explore as much as I would have liked, so I skipped out on the gondolas again. To make up for it, we visited the bridge that the gondolas go under just to experience the “Venetian” world (if anyone wants to go on a trip with me to Venice I will marry you instantly), and I just knew that I wanted a set of photos in front of the arches.

Hopefully my next visit to Vegas will include enough time to sit through a gondola ride both inside and outside of the hotel (along with a big list full of other things that I want to try). But I can’t really complain because I’m truly thankful to be able to visit Vegas under the pretense of a work trip!
