WMCFW Day 2 Recap

WMCFW Day 2 Recap + GIVEAWAY Part 1

While getting ready for the second day of World Mastercard Fashion Week, I couldn’t help but feel grateful about how short the first day was. It was also significantly warmer, so I felt that it would be appropriate to show some leg (okay I lied, I also showed some leg on the first day, but I just really wanted to pretend that I had a reason to). I soon learned that it would be warmest day of the week and for some reason I had decided to wear my warmest outfit. Not a good plan when you’re going to spending the majority of the day outdoors. If you’ve never been to WMCFW, the tents are situated outdoors in David Pecaut Square, and not inside of some presentation center like you would assume. It was easy to say that I wasted a warm outfit on a day that would have deserved it more.

Culottes have never really had that forefront of an interest in my mind (you know how I like to curate lists of things that I want), but as soon as I laid eyes on this pair at Urban Outfitters, I just knew that it was meant to be. You know when you and your soulmate make eye-contact and something just clicks? It was like that, but for a pair of pants. Yes, I fell in love with a pair of pants.

As silly as it sounds, it felt like a match made in heaven. I’ve often found that when I’m on the hunt for something in particular, I’ve set out all of the requirements that I’m searching for, and everything that lands in my lap never quite cuts it. It may have just been the fact that I thought culottes would be cool, but never really quite spent too much time thinking about it, that when one came to me, I loved it instantly. Not only did it fit well (where it sat on my hips), but I liked both the shape and the length of it. It wasn’t overly baggy to the point where I felt that I was swimming in fabric, but it also wasn’t too straight that it appeared to be a skirt.

And to make it all that much better, it came in a relatively neutral shade that would easily pair with anything else in my wardrobe. A heathered denim shade can never go wrong. The only downfall is how easy the material can crease. Think of a linen/wool blend. It was light like linen, but scratchy and itchy like wool. Trust me when I say that it looked like I was scratching at a wedgie all day long. But a draped jacket always makes for an easy scratch that’s hidden from prying eyes. Not that anyone should be prying, but hey, you never know.

I had already tried pairing these culottes with a turtleneck top, but felt a loose everything was more suited for a busy day of running around, attending shows and capturing street style photos – all in the name of a day’s work. Naturally such a simple bottom needed something a little bit busier on top to balance it all out. Not only did the navy stripes on this Dynamite top (Would you be surprised if I told you that this was actually a dress?) match perfectly with the shade of my pants, but the loose fit was conducive to the warmth. I’m the type of person that prefers a breezy outfit on a warm day.

Besides just keeping myself cool with breezy fabrics, I had to make sure that I shielded myself from the sun’s rays as well with a new favorite hat that I recently picked up from a fellow Ottawan blogger. I always love supporting local businesses and couldn’t help myself when I found out that a fellow blogger was starting her own. Definitely check out her shop, because her hats are fantastic in quality and Emily is the sweetest girl ever!

I thoroughly liked Helder Diego’s different use of materials throughout their collection. I was particularly fond of the faux snake-skin set that looked amazing together, but would be equally good separately.

As ungirly as I am sometimes, my inner femininity always comes out and rejoices when I see NARCES’ collection. Always full of lace, frills and impeccable detailing, you can always count on NARCES to bring the elegant glam to WMCFW.

But aside from glitz and glamor, I will always love my simplistic and modern silhouettes. VAWK killed it with the square collars as well as their quirky but relatively cute Subway capsule collection. Is it odd that I actually really like the branded belt? Obviously it’s going to be used for my AYCE sushi days. Who am I kidding, that’s basically everyday.

If I had to pick one collection that spoke to me the most, it would definitely have to be Melissa Nepton. Without a doubt when it comes down to fashion or comfort, you know that I’d choose comfort any day. And if pillow jackets are going to be the next big thing after blanket scarves, then you know that I’m ready to sign up!

Although David Dixon was a little bit out of my realm (bustiers aren’t exactly my thing), I very much so enjoyed the strong and bold silhouette he portrayed using Joan of Arc as his muse. I’m always appreciative for a B&W collection (it may be my calling), especially when details can easily be lost in such flat colors. But David Dixon’s fantastic use of fabric and seams really emphasizes the minute details to the point where a not a single one is lost in the color.

Your outfit is perfect! I am also not one for culottes but I feel like I should now rethink that.

Thank you Annie! I never thought that I would either until I found out just how wildly comfortable they can be!
