WMCFW Day 5 Recap

WMCFW Day 5 Recap

It’s been a long journey but Fashion Week has to come to an end at some point. With a smaller team attending this year, each individual had much more work to cover for than last season. That being said, this season felt significantly shorter. It could have perhaps been the fact that there were fewer shows, or just straight up because I enjoyed it so much that I didn’t want it to end. And when it did, I was in denial.

WMCFW Day 5 Recap

I had seemingly underestimated the weather of the fifth and final day of WMCFW. The bright sun and blue sky deceived me when I looked out the window, and led me to forget to actually check for the weather on my phone before leaving the house. Only once had I stepped out did I realize my mistake, but it was too late to go back and change at that point. I decided to suck it up and to rely on my over coat to stay warm all day. Staying mostly inside the tents definitely helped as well.

WMCFW Day 5 Recap

Sometimes desperate times calls for desperate measures. Ironically enough, all week the Media Lounge inside of the tents had been blasted with ridiculously hot air from the heaters, to the point where you would feel like you’re sitting in front of a fire-breathing dragon. We had complained to the staff all week that it was just too hot to tolerate, and low-and-behold, they turned it down. On the last day of all days. The absolute coldest day of the week. Go figure. It seems that saying the “you always want what you don’t have” does have some merit to it.

WMCFW Day 5 Recap

I spent the majority of the afternoon to evening squatting in front of the heaters trying to soak up as much of the heat as possible. In between squat sessions, I draped my overcoat on top of my legs during the shows to avoid freezing myself to death in the tents.

I did do a couple of quick Starbucks and bathroom runs throughout the day to both stock up on caffeine and then eject it back out. Hey, it happens right? At least I wore my comfortable heels to run around in (and to handle the cold).

Oh, did I also mention that I had originally planned on wearing these heels on the first day, but had actually forgot to bring them? There’s no way that I’m going to spend my 45 minute morning commute in uncomfortable shoes, regardles of how “unfashionable” my outfit would look without them. So walking into the tents early in the morning in comfortable booties and toting along heels has become an everyday ritual for Fashion Week. Unfortunately on the first day, I was quite rushed and besides my heels, I had also forgotten several other things as well.

WMCFW Day 5 Recap

I don’t often get the chance to wear all of my heels, so when I actually do, I grab at it and try not to let go. Which meant if I missed out on Day 1 it due to irreconcilable circumstances, I searched high and low for another opportunity. Day 5 proved to be promising – minus the chilliness.

WMCFW Day 5 Recap

Tying up the last day of Fashion Week were some incredible designers. There were several male designers that day, which were really fun to see since the majority of designers showing throughout the week were female. I’ve included a quick recap of all the designers that I thoroughly enjoyed and can’t believe that all of the Fashion Week craziness is finally over. It shouldn’t surprised you that I’m already counting down the days till the next season in October!

WMCFW Day 5 Recap

Jaan Choxi showed for the first time at WMCFW with beautifully tailored suits for men that utilized materials that are typically out of the ordinary. Clearly a full out leather tux can look amazing on anyone, but Jaan Choxi made their models look absolutely stunning due to the perfect tailoring.

Although a protester managed to successfully crash The Wild North Apparel’s show, she didn’t stop the models from rocking the wondeful pieces. I especially liked the blue jacket with the fur rimmed hood and zip that extended from the top to bottom. But what actually caught my eye were the furry additions on the bras (hello Tarzan inspired bikinis). Is it weird to say that I actually wanted the bras more than I wanted the jackets?

3.PARADIS showed some oddly androgenous looks that centred around some color blocking and stripes. I absolutely fawned over the black and white color theme that was accented with beige and a bright tomato red. Some of the models came out wearing oxygen masks, which is completely understandable when you’re at a lost for words for the designs. I mean who wouldn’t catch their breathe after seeing these strangely beautiful pieces?

WMCFW Day 5 Recap

Closing out WMCFW was the ever fabled Mikael D – otherwise known as the master of mesh and overlay. Ever since seeing him for the first time last season, his was one of the shows that I looked forward to the most. His use of detailing to create seriously intricate patterns and images of their own over top of mesh and other fabrics always has me in awe trying to figure out in my mind just how long it takes to put together each piece. It’s one thing to use fabric that’s available for everyone, it’s another to create your own custom designs.
