As a child, one of my favorite things to do was reading. I’d pass entire days devouring books and stay up all night consuming the words off of a page instead of sleeping. Saying that I was a bookworm was a little bit of an understatement. I practically lived for books.

The New York Public Library ranked quite high up on my list for places to visit during my trip. It represented a nod of nostalgica to my childhood and was a place that I wanted to visit not only for photos, but out of genuine eagerness to explore as well. They just don’t make libraries like this anymore!

Stone, marble and tons of delicate detailing? Obviously I’m hooked. It was an easy sell too, considering the fact that there was a dance troupe performing out front – which was also another aspect that drew us in.

Our plan was to spend a lot of the day walking around the city and exploring a couple of random sites, so I didn’t want a overly formal outfit to stop me from being able to easily move around. It wasn’t an overly hot day either (as it had been the prior fiew days), so my pleather shorts were an easy option.

Pleather being such a heavy material, I wanted something equally as dense for my top so that everything would balance out. The only other top that I had packed for the trip which would fit the criteria was my chambray buttoned-down.

The resy of the outfit was decidingly simple and I chose to keep the overall look moderately plain. The heavy textiles did a lot of the speaking and I was able to go with a minimalist pair of heels along with a couple of accesories to tie everything together.

I opted for a lace bra underneath of the top (which was only noticeable at certain angles) as a discreet method of accessorizing alongside the obvious sunglasses and felt hat.

I felt that keeping the jewelry to a minimum would be the best option as well so as not to overly deck myself out when I’ve already got so much going on in terms of the clothing aspect of everything. Turns out that the minimal styling came in handy as the day got hotter than we expected and we didn’t end up boiling our faces off attempting to walk around everywhere.
