Knits, Layers, and Holes

Knits, Layers, and Holes

There’s an indication of pure laziness when all of the outfits that you’re motivated to wear consist of mainly comfort over style.

Since winter struck (and boy did it strike hard this past weekend), all I’ve been willing to put on are my sweats. I’m sure if I were to poll the world, the uninamous response would be that sweats are easily the most comfortable thing that you can wear (besides being in the nude – duh). But along side that train of thought would quickly follow “but they aren’t exactly presentable or professional”.

I don’t know about you, but when I hear those words, I echo back the sentiment “who cares”. Except sometimes a lot of people do. Especially when you’re working in an industry where you need to be presentable at all times in order to jump into impromptu meetings or chatting with clients.

From this, I’ve learned the art of dressing up your sweats. Sweats don’t necessarily just connotate the standard cotton knit with a fuzzy inner lining. This top that I’m wearing is a sweatshirt. So does that not constitute as a sweat? I sure think so.

The only steadfast rule that I abide by when styling my sweats, is that both top and bottom pieces must equal in comfort. Which for me means no tight jeans (unless they stretch as if you’re wearing leggings) and no pressed pants.

Since I was going for more of a loose/casual (not frumpy) look, I felt that my my white, ripped, boyfriend jeans would do the trick (pssst -I’ll let you in on a little secret, they’re actually overalls!).

To elevate the caj and to create some pizazz (sorry I just had to, it rhymed too well), I made sure to slip into a pair of heeled booties to give the look a little wow-factor.

Accessories-wise, I didn’t want to deter from the simplicity of the look and instead of selecting a flashy purse, I went for my understated envelope clutch. Everyone needs to own a clutch in this shade of grey as it automatically goes along with anything.

To also ensure maximum comfort, I made sure to throw on a jacket that gave enough space for me to still wiggle my arms underneath all of the voluminous knits of the sweater.

So how exactly do you create an outfit with knits, layers, and holes you ask? Exactly like that.
