Knots & High Rises

Knots & High Rises

When I was younger, I loved tying my shirts around at my waist. For some reason, I believed that by showing off my belly, I’d be perceived as more mature. Skip forward a whole decade (and maybe then some), I’m now doing quite the opposite.

Knots & High Rises

I’m not quite as lithe as I used to be, so showing off my stomache isn’t always my preference when it comes to how I dress myself. On some days, I’m feeling taut and toned. Others, not so much.

The effects of what I eat are quickly catching up to me ever since my metabolism began to slow down. I remember when I could devour entire boxes of candy without any buyers’ remorse (or eaters’ remorse for that matter) and feel perfectly fine. Not a single pimple would show up, and none of the sugar went to my hips. Fast forward 5 years or so and I really have to begin watching what I eat.

Oddly enough, becoming a little bit more health conscious has allowed me to explore other options of modifying my clothes to suite my needs without really exposing to the world how much of a poor eater that I am.

Those long days of hugging a bowl of fro-yo while watching a marathon of friends can say goodbye to unsightly flab with the help of some high-rise shorts.

Low-rise pants were ridiculously popular for a couple of years running, but I’m seriously glad that that’s over. I constantly felt like I was being pinched at the hips by the seams of the pants, and I was forever coming home to red lines around my waist. Not cool trends, not cool.

Now the higher-rises actually help to hold together some of that junkfood baby that I like to carry around with me until I have the time to work it off (ha! Isn’t that a joke, considering the fact that I barely have any time to workout anymore!).

But not only do high-waisted pants and shorts really help to hide those indulgent nights, they also help to lengthen your legs and those limbs appear as if they go on for days. I’m not kidding, high-waisted shorts are literally the definition of killing two birds with one stone.

They hide the unsightlies and help create an illusion of spider legs. Granted, I should be working off the food to have that figure in real life, but who are we kidding here. When will I really find the time to throw in a couple set of squats (maybe in a few months, but definitely not now).

And if the lengthening factor of short shorts aren’t enough for your leggy cravings? The only obvious answer is to add some heels into the mix. Since I wanted to go with a casual outfit that would not only work for a day at work but for going out for drinks after with some friends, I opted for these Steve Madden sandal booties that I snagged at a sale from my local Hudson’s Bay outlet.

These sandal booties also just so happened to coincidentally be the same shade as my skintone, which further perpetuated the elongation process.

I’m not really complaining here so let’s just roll with it! Short shorts – check, high-waists – check, heeled shoes – check, nude shoes – check. Do I look taller yet?
