Not a New Navy

As a strictly monochrome dresser, I surprised myself this past month by wearing a lot of blues. Whether it be in paler shades or dark like this navy, blue seems to be making its way back into my everyday wear. Not surprisingly enough that the first color being integrated (slowly) back into my style is a neutral. Seems like an obvious choice.

Not a New Navy

If you were to ask me what my favorite color was almost 20 years ago, I would have for sure said yellow. And then slowly I gravitated over to blue. For some reason I recognized that blue went along well with so many more colors than yellow, and that yellow wasn’t always necessarily an option when I had to pick something in a color that I liked.

I was often left unsatisfied and unhappy if what I wanted didn’t come in the color that I liked. To control that, I gradually shifted my favorite color of choice to this classic neutral and surprise, surprise, my life was significantly more satisfying.

Not a New Navy

Awhile back I went through this phase where I felt that almost every single person that I met liked blue, and I didn’t want to be grouped into the demographic of average – so I changed my favorite color again.

Not a New Navy

Wanting to be unique, I went ahead with purple. I mostly blame the fact that I only picked that color after learning the fact that purple is indicative of royalty. If my name isn’t royal enough, it was if I was trying to make myself actually feel like a queen. Clearly I’m not.

But once again, I came to the same result, that purple isn’t as common of a color as yellow. If anything, I found that it was even less common. It was difficult for me to find things that I liked being carried in purple. As royal as it made me feel, I certainly felt less of it whenever I wasn’t able to have my way. I came to the realization that blue had always been the color of my choice, and that I’m quite content with being labelled as average – at least when it comes to colors.

Not a New Navy

Just kidding, I don’t actually want to be average. I’m just average when it comes to color palettes. I like my black and whites, my neutrals and then my muted colors. Why? Because they just go together so well that I can mix and match everything that I own together without ever second guessing myself. If anything, having such a preference towards a neutral color palette has done me better in all categories than I could possibly have done with either yellow or purple.

Not a New Navy

Not to say that I don’t appreciate a nice little pop of color every once in awhile, but I would have to stay that in staying true to my conscious, I’ll always be a navy blue girl.
