Off Whites

Off Whites

As much as a monotone girl I can be, sometimes there are days when I just feel an urge to add a little bit of color into my life. But as much as I’d like to inject some vibrancy into my life, I often find that I just go off on variant shades of what I already own – greiges and other various shades that fall within the black and white spectrum.

Off Whites

When it comes to describing the various shades of white that you can pick for painting your walls, you come across names like eggshell, snow, fog and sand. For simplicity’s sake when describing colors for clothes, let’s just keep it as off whites, or even better – greige.

It’s crucial to play with a variety of different textures and patterns when you’re attempting to layer an outfit that’s all within the same color palette. If you don’t, you end up looking like you’ve draped 10 scarves across your body or that you just rolled across the reject rack in a change room and walked out without taking off the clothes. It’s not a pretty look when you don’t play it up right.

Off Whites

I only went for one true white piece here – the kimono, since I wanted the overarching color to really be a white. Any smaller piece would be lost within the outfit and never to be noticed behind all of the off white options.

To break up the look so that I wouldn’t look like a giant silk worm cocoon, I decided to go for a patterned top which would help differentiate what belongs on the top and what belongs on the waist downwards.

Off Whites

Like I said, I already went for white in the largest piece possible (the kimono), which left an off-white shade for the pants. I won’t lie, I don’t even own any pants of this silhouette in a white anyways, so it wouldn’t have even been viable option. A ridiculously light cream was the next best option. And hey, it fit with the outfit, so why not?

With such a billowy silhouette, I didn’t want to bog it down anymore than I had to with a pair of bulky shoes. As things go when I wear baggy clothes, heels were the only acceptable option. And keeping with the off white theme, I decided to go for these nude colored ones instead of my typical strappy black ones (though those ones would have also paired extremely well with the black gridlock pattern of my top).
