On the Grid Lock

On the Grid Lock

It’s officially my birthday today! For the weekend, I decided to make the trek back home to Ottawa with P to not only do our monthly family visit, but to also be closer to my loved ones for my birthday. I’ve had a rough few couple of weeks and wanted to escape back to a stress-free environment to relax and enjoy a couple days without constantly fretting and stressing out about the future. So don’t worry if you see me a little bit removed from social media, because I’ll be internet detoxing for the next few days! I’ll defintely make sure to share my weekend once I’m back into the swing of things next week though of course!

On the Grid Lock

A couple months back, I happened across this matching two-piece set at Forever 21 and immediately knew that it had to be in my life. You know when you get those sort of “the universe is calling” type of signals, this was one of those – except for clothing. “How materialistic of you”, you might be thinking right now, but when you know, you just know.

I don’t own that many matching sets, so it’s not like I’m going overboard with the whole matchy-matchy aesthetic. The last one that I bought was around pre-Christmas time, so I warranted that 6 months was long enough that I could justify picking up another one.

The matching set that I bought last time was overly festive with the gold-stitched tigers roaming across the print, and it wasn’t something that I could wear on an everyday basis without feeling like I was overly dressed up. Which meant that because this grid-printed one was much more casual, it would serve a completely different purpose.

It came with elements of everything that I’m currently in love with: a grid print, culottes (or are they called gauchos?), breezy material for the warm summer air, and a cute collared top that can be paired with other bottoms. In fact re-pairing this entire set with different pieces will be a breeze. Consider this grid-print to be my new neutral.

Grid-prints are such a ridiculously simple and modern print that goes well with almost anything without being too overwhelming. And to those that think that an entire matching set of grid-print really is overwhelming, well, haters gonna hate, potatos gonna potate.

I’ve learned to stop really caring what other people think, because let’s face it – you’re here for you. At the end of the day, friends will come and go (some will stick around forever), but you’ll always be the only one there when everyone is gone.

I’ve learned to understand that I’m not here to please others because for the rare few, they’ll remember when you do anything for them, but for the bigger picture, their criticism doesn’t really matter and they’ll even forget their words and judgements.

What’s the point in living for someone else when they probably won’t be in your life anyways (later on in the future)? With that being said, I’ve embraced exploring different fashion styles and finding the right one that suits me, not what others think suits me.

The past couple of weeks for me have been rough and I can’t help but appreciate the loved ones that surround me everyday and continue to support me through all of my ups and downs in life. I’m thankful to be spending a weekend at home with my family and friends and can’t wait for a fresh start next week when I’m back at it.
